Transportation Planner 4000-200701 - is an interdisciplinary team member or  manager who develops and analyzes policy and data to prepare, administer, and monitor transportation plans, programs, and projects.

  Transportation Planners plan, develop, administer, evaluate, and monitor transportation plans, programs, and projects; prepare system plans of transportation facilities and services including highways, aviation, public transportation, and nonmotorized facilities; perform transportation studies for the development of transportation systems of all modes; participate in policy development and implementation; analyze proposed policies from other government agencies; develop and analyze legislation related to transportation; propose, perform, and evaluate transportation planning research; monitor and certify the regional transportation planning process for conformance with State and Federal requirements; provide Transportation Planning expertise to Federal, State, regional, local agencies, and transit operators to carry out the transportation planning process; develop, administer, and monitor consultant contracts and grant programs; promote and support alternative modes of transportation including public transportation and ridesharing; participate on transportation planning issues at public or private meetings and hearings; and do other related work.

 In state (California) travel required

 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Awareness and sensitivity to social, economic, and environmental conditions which affect transportation planning;

A Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, City  Planning or Regional Planning

                                          Or

 A Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as:  Urban or Regional Studies, Public Policy, Public Administration, Environmental Policy or Studies, Geography, Sociology, Economics, or Civil Engineering: and Twelve semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in any of the following subject areas:  transportation planning, city, community, regional, rural or urban planning/studies, land use planning and development, or travel analysis and forecasting.

Experience:  Three years of experience in either one or a combination

           of the following areas

       1.   Federal, State, regional, or local transportation planning

                activities.  or

           2.   Transit planning, transportation studies, transportation system

                planning studies, or legislative transportation studies.

    A Doctorate Degree in Transportation Planning may be substituted for

           the required experience.

Resident Engineer 5000-201012 – Transportation Infrastructure Construction Projects

We have immediate opportunities for Resident Engineers and Office Engineers with experience on major public works construction projects. Looking for experience with freeways, transit stations and structures including, transit maintenance facilities, transit stations, elevated transit stations, and transit & freeway bridges.  Any BART or Caltrans experience is a real plus. Positions exist in northern California primarily. In state (California) travel required.  Awareness and sensitivity to social, economic, and environmental conditions which affect transportation infrastructure projects

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree

Registered Professional Engineer in California preferred

Experience:  Three years of experience as a resident engineer, construction manager or office engineer on public works projects.  BART experiences, Caltrans structures experience a real plus or other major transit construction experiences.

Education:  Equivalent to graduation from college. Course work must include three semester units or equivalent quarter units in English composition as part of a total of

15 semester units or equivalent quarter units in public administration, business administration, accounting, economics, political science, social science, computer science, English, speech, statistics, law, or a closely related area.

Environmental Planner 3000-200703 –As a team member or manager who participates in transportation systems and land-use planning and project development; prepares environmental analysis of proposed projects and modal and design alternatives; identifies environmental impacts of transportation systems, corridors and projects and

formulates measures to mitigate impacts; prepares, reviews and processes environmental clearance documents for transportation systems plans and projects in compliance with all applicable local, State and Federal laws, regulations and policies; reviews environmental documents of local, State and Federal agencies; and prepares inventories and analyses of existing and future environmental conditions. Prepare, review and process environmental documents mandated by Federal and State laws and regulations and, as a team member, must  assess the consequences to the environment of transportation alternatives and formulate environmental mitigation measures for these alternatives. Perform research within area of expertise as part of a research team; monitor and evaluate environmental research findings accomplished by out-service personnel and contract consultants.

Knowledge of:  General ecology or general principles behind planning

for the conservation and preservation of natural resources; general

principles and techniques of research and statistical analysis; communication skills for purposes of data gathering; techniques and methods of evaluation of environmental impacts; various types of public facilities and how they service the community; State and

Federal laws and regulations relating to the environment; State, local and regional governmental organizations as they relate to environmental planning, specific knowledge of either the social sciences, natural sciences or environmental design arts; trends in environmental, urban and regional planning.

 Ability to:  Analyze environmental situations accurately; gather and analyze data; prepare written reports; work effectively with others as an interdisciplinary team member; conduct interviews for data gathering; apply general techniques of insuring participation in the planning process.

In state travel required.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in the Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or

Environmental Design Arts.  Three years of experience in environmental planning,research, analysis, or evaluation (A Doctorate Degree in Environmental Planning or Environmental Sciences may be substituted for the three years of required experience; a Master's Degree in Environmental Planning or Environmental Sciences may be substituted for two years of the general experience.)
